5.0 out of 5 stars best of the best food processor, June 30, 2012

My kitchens have always had a food processor in residence. My husband and I cook a lot. One of the things we prepare is a swedish cucumber salad, simple, but requires thinly sliced cucumber. I have had to do this by hand since my then current processor did not have a wide tube. When I saw the KitchenAid on Amazon, a light bulb went on. Not only does it process cucumber slices perfectly, it is hefty enough for my bread dough, pasta dough, and every chore I give it. GO FOR IT! It's the best! Now ALL of my kitchens, and my children's kitchens, have resident KitchenAids

4.0 out of 5 stars This thing has some serious horsepower, June 26, 2012

The motor on this processor is pretty hefty; it took a good amount of effort to stall it while shredding cabbage. My main interest in this item was the large bowl and opening in the feed tube; I grew tired of slicing veggies (especially cabbage) into tiny pieces to fit into the small chute of my old processor.

Unfortunately at least 40% the volume in this units' feed tube is unusable. The food pusher integrates with a safety lock mechanism inside the feed tube, and must be inserted almost halfway into the feed tube before the unit will operate. In other words, there is no way to operate the processer without the food pusher inserted almost halfway into the feed tube! So the large, voluminous feed tube is more for show than go... undoubtedly because the product engineers are forced (by the lawyers) to protect us from ourselves.

Disappointing, but still way better than my old Black & Decker with the underpowered motor, narrow feed tube and small bowl.

It's a perfectly adequate food processor... So long as you aren't blending liquids. Then, expect your salad dressing, borscht, pea soup or whatever to leak out around the seal of bowl and lid, and make a slimy mess for you to clean up. Ick. But if all you're doing is chopping onions, slicing potatoes, or making a batch of noodle or bread dough, it's fine. Homemade mayonnaise, Caesar salad dressing, or cream soups, not so much.
